Sectarians' Corner 2, The Revenge

The Weekly Worker (go on, you know you all read it) is better than usual this week, with some interesting stuff on Tower Hamlets Respect and some trouble a't' mill therein between SWP and non SWP members. They also have some more material on the Workers' Power split, and a short-and-to-the-point letter from Jim expressing some forthright views about a series of WW articles on Zionism.

Further, there's an interesting, well written and deliciously critical article about George Galloway himself, in the July 2006 edition of the Socialist Standard. For those of you who don't know what this is, it's the publication of the Socialist Party of Great Britain (not to be confused with the ex-Militant Tendency, who have a similar name). Its main claims to fame are that it's been going since the dawn of time, that its members do an entertaining line in rhetorical debate in Hyde Park of a Sunday, and of course that Darren is a member. However, most of its written materials make for a more entertaining read than the average Trot mag, and the article on Galloway is just to die for...

Enjoy.

Of course I read the Weekly Worker. I just make sure I have a copy of Playboy to hide it behind if I read it in public.

In the UK, you have an advantage over Americans, in polemics.

I read Spartacist League papers.

Sorry Renegade, I reckons the Sparts are world champs at good old-fashioned sectarian denunciation.

Sadly, that seems to be going out of fashion these days.

Hey VP,

I'm sure you've been to Speakers Corner many more times than myself - and that was well before I left for America. I could never stand speakers corner. The speakers weren't too bad, it was the week in week out hecklers that always struck me as the nutters. ;-)

But thanks for the name check for the Standard. ;-)

Read this week's Weekly Worker. It's the usual Weekly Worker for the week of the SWP's recruitathon. Was it last year's issue that carried the verbatim account of the SWP member being expelled from the organisation in his living room by Martin Smith, or was that the year before?

I definitely think the CPGB have long replaced the AWL as the average SWPers group to hate. The AWL must do better!

The Weekly Worker expulsion of the SWP'er is this years expulsion. The current article is a combination of two previous articles plus some new stuff.

Daz;

Oh believe me, the AWL are still the group that SWP'ers love to hate - have a look through some of the comments boxes on Lenny Lenin's site and you'll see more vitriol directed at the AWL than at the Tories, Liberals or anyone else.

But of course as SWP'ers maintain in their classic auto-phrase, it's everyone else who are the "sectarians" :D

Well a sectarian is someone who puts a petty difference before class interests
