Talking of "Inviting Commentators"...
... if anyone would care to comment on this open letter in the Weekly Worker (I promise not to source from them every week), then I'd be interested to hear about it.
I'd be particularly interested in the views of anyone (mentioning no names) who thinks that we need to subordinate criticism of reactionary regimes that happen to be anti-US, in the name of "anti-imperialism". Anything ranging from sophisticated political theory, to explanations as to how you sleep at night, would be most welcome.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I don't think it's all that complicated. You identify who wants to systematically kill you and you kill them first. I'd point out that the hatred for our (Western) way of life was ALWAYS there. What angers me about you lefties is the fact that you're going after the wrong assholes. Yes, we can ALL be assholes from time to time, but for cryin' out loud! Don't be apologists for the preemminent Death Cult of our day.
Islamists are not the main enemy. That doesn't mean, they shouldn't be dealt with. If you read the Islamists forums, you'll know killing communists is a priority of theirs.
To be a revolutionary in countries, as Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, etc, requires being secular and socialist.
A quick reminder that most of those demands were met or about to be met before the US started their aggressive posturing, causing the country to rely more heavily on reactionary hard men.
Incidentally, there are several Islamist Communist and Socialist parties in Iran who are actually trying to change the way the faith is interpreted - a very courageous task indeed.
There have even been majles - leading religious teachers/academics - who have espoused Socialism and rejected the subordination of women.
I don't think it is so clear-cut as you make out.
