Ridley Didley Doo
Respect's Yvonne "Don't Panic, I'm Islamic" Ridley on the recent police shooting of a young Muslim man in East London:
"I don't think the Muslim community should communicate with the police any more until they start showing some respectto the community."
Oh yeah, like that's gonna help. Nice one Yvonne...
What I'm wondering though, is what Yvonne wants non-Muslim South Asians, Arabs, Turks etcera, to do? And about the (religiously Islamic, culturally secular) Turks, are they Islamic enough for her? And whilst we're at it, what would she like white Respect'ers to do?
It's notable that Galloway doesn't appear to be commenting on Ridley's statement. Presumably he's got more sense.
Yvonne, if you're reading this, I'd refer you to my post below about the Left becoming a gaggle of competing sectional interests. Now, you wouldn't want that to happen, would you?

Have written a little salutation to the Georgester, on this very subject ;)
Why would Yvonne Ridlay give a monkey's about "the left?"
Because, at least nominally, she is supposedly part of it, being a member of Respect.
Respect is a party of the Left...? Ridley's class position and politics are quite plain: she sends her daughter (whom she charmingly and publicly refers to as "a mistake") to private school. She's a communalist, plain and simple. And the fact that the SWP's in bed with an individual with such transparently anti-working class politics is yet another example of the degree to which they've abandoned any loose concept of class analysis.
Easy there tiger...
I'm not saying that Respect is a top political project. It clearly isn't, and I'm not a member of it. It does, however, proclaim itself to be a party of the left. And I think it's on that basis that Ridley (and more particularly her buddies in the SWP) should be held to account.
Respect is a party of the Left...?
You think it isn't? Don't be absurd.
