Just GO already!

Apparently Tony Blair is due later today to announce his "timetable" for departure as Labour leader. Man, some people just don't know when it's over, do they?

Tony. Look, I know I'm no friend of yours, but it's perfectly clear that even your most supple-spined MPs have now decided that it's not in their political interests to offer you backing any more. Several members of the government resigned just yesterday, and it's hardly as though they were Nye Bevan types, is it?

What's more, I wouldn't bet against more going today; is anyone else wondering where Jack Straw's been over the past couple of days?

Let's just face it, you're the failed Prime Minister of failing Government, and if your party is to revive itself before the next general election, then now's the time for a change. If there is an ounce of decency left under the mass of spin, messianic delusions and ego that now seem to form your persona, then you will just go. And go now, not after a delay set out in some "timetable".

Then maybe, just maybe, you can take the rest of your life to seek the personal redemption that you seem to want so desperately. And try to wash that Iraqi, Afghan and Lebanese blood from your hands.

Good luck with that.

I generally concur, Oh Priestly One. However, a word of caution: have you noticed that one of the Brownites' gripes is that the Blairites are talking about a leadership "contest" rather than a "stable and orderly transition". The Brownites are also demanding (according to today's Grauniad) "a public endorsement of the chancellor's leadership candidacy, and repudiation of the idea of a fundamental debate about the Labour Party's future". The Brownites are *more* hostile to democracy within the Party (at the moment)than the Blairites. The serious left should avoid appearing to endorse Brownite plotting. A plague on both their houses! McDonnell for leader!

A joke from John McDonnell at the Manchester Rally to launch his campaign tonight.

"I rang up Tony Blair to tell him not to organise an orderly transition from Blair to McDonnell. He wasn't very pleased but I want an election." He also used the word 'contemptible' to describe those turning on Blair despite agreeing with him politically. Someone else referred to cynical opportunists or something to that effect. The general approach of the real left seems sensibly to stand back from it all.

My feeling is that the events of the last few days make an orderly transition / coronation of Brown much less likely. He may have blown that though he's still favourite to win. Blairites are losing their inhibitions about standing someone against him.

Also a couple of CLPs have already put down motions for Blair to go now.

Got that, folks? It was a coalition of UK and IDF forces which assaulted Hizb'allah infested southern Lebanon.

Honestly, Volt. Stop your fucking lying bullshit insinuations. It's unbecoming.

No, Booger (that comment was full 'a' feeling btw - sour mash? ;-)) - the point is that he wouldn't call for a ceasefire; as a world leader, he has to take some responsibility for the fact that his actions have consequences.
