Well done, our kid
I promise to stop being nice to Respect members after this, but I had to mention Salma Yaqoob standing up to a Tory councillor who told her to consider moving to Oldham or Burnley, in the wake of comments that she had made about the ethnic balance of senior council positions.
Salma, I've long thought you were the best of the bunch in Respect, keep this up and your good reputation will continue to spread.

Are the rest of us a load of crap then? :)
I'm sure you're a top bloke, Morbo ;)
Seriously though, aside from the obvious plus points of Salma relative to other leading Respect'ers (for example she's never impersonated a cat on live national TV :D), I think she's always seemed both competent and sincere.
I do, however, have issues with Respect as a political project, which is why I've never joined it and don't intend to. It looks to me like a stitched together coalition of sectional interests, rather than a genuine refoundation of the popular left.
Well it probably isn't a genuine refoundation of the left, what it is though is a step in the right direction, a stepping stone onto other things. Strategy needs to be right at the right time, strategy absent of history isn't strategy at all, more a dogma. Will see about RESPECT, anyway.
